November 2023: PlotBox and Cardiff Council are delighted to announce the start of an extensive digital transformation partnership that is set to streamline the local authority’s bereavement services processes and operations.
Cardiff Bereavement Services maintains eight cemeteries, which span over 235 acres, including Cathays Cemetery which was opened in 1859, and Thornhill Cemetery, whose crematory opened in 1953.
Serving a population of over 360,000, Cardiff Bereavement Services offers funeral arrangements and services, memorials, genealogy and independent funeral advice.
In addition, the Cardiff Council Funeral Service has provided a low-cost fixed-price option for Cardiff residents for more than 20 years.
Martin Birch, Operational Manager for Bereavement & Registration Services at Cardiff Council said,
"Key to our bereavement strategy is the need to modernise our service, allowing us to further improve family experience whilst also creating the efficiency that enables us to better support the families who need us most.
It was essential for the Council to upgrade its systems and find a cloud-based digital solution that would not only enhance our service to families in providing genealogy information but would future-proof our operations in terms of our legislative and statutory obligations.
In PlotBox, we have found a partner who has exceeded our expectations, with a solution that will seamlessly integrate all of our essential functions, helping to keep our data secure and our teams connected across all of our facilities.”
PlotBox CCO and co-founder Leona McAllister said,
"We're delighted to partner with Cardiff Council, and look forward to working with Martin and his team to provide a solution that will help them to realise their goals and ambitions of enhancing customer service and ensuring future growth and sustainability.
We currently partner with over 45 Local Authorities across the UK and Ireland, and we’re confident that the team at Cardiff will benefit from increased efficiencies, smarter workflows, better communication and greater confidence in their data; along with elevated customer interactions through the PlotBox Everafter public genealogy portal."
The project is set to commence with an expected 'go live' of the solution in early 2024.
